Bharti airtel stock update- singtel to offload ₹8,568 crore worth of airtel shares

In a strategic move that could stir investor sentiment, Singapore-based telecom giant Singtel is set to sell Bharti Airtel shares worth $1 billion through a block deal. According to the reports, the floor price for this large transaction is fixed at ₹1,800 per share, about 3.6% below Thursday’s closing price on the NSE. This block deal, involving nearly 4.76 crore shares, is expected to fetch ₹8,568 crore and will be executed via Singtel’s indirect subsidiary, Pastel Ltd, with JP Morgan as the sole placement agent.

The Singtel Airtel stake sale could influence both the stock price and trading volumes in the short term, making it crucial for retail and institutional investors to stay alert.

Why Is Singtel Trimming Its Airtel Stake Now?

Singtel has been slowly paring down its stake in Bharti Airtel over the past year. In March 2024, it sold a similar 0.8% stake to GCQ Partners. The current sale again amounts to 0.8% of Airtel’s total equity, reducing its indirect holding which stood at 9.49% as of March 2025.

The move may be part of portfolio restructuring or capital reallocation. It’s worth noting that Bharti Airtel’s stock has surged over 42% in the past year, outperforming most Nifty50 stocks. With the stock trading near lifetime highs, this could be a strategic exit point for Singtel to book profits.

Bharti Airtel’s Strong Financials Support Investor Confidence

Earlier this week, Bharti Airtel posted a fivefold jump in consolidated net profit for Q4 FY25, clocking ₹11,022 crore—up from ₹2,071.6 crore YoY. The impressive bottom-line performance was largely driven by tariff hikes and increased data consumption.

Revenue from operations surged 27% YoY to ₹47,876.2 crore, while the average revenue per user (ARPU) climbed 17% to ₹245. This puts Airtel ahead of rivals like Reliance Jio (ARPU ₹206.2), reinforcing its leadership in premium services.

The subscriber base rose to 42.4 crore, with over 135 million users now on 5G. Airtel’s diversified business model, including its B2B cloud and CPaaS services, further adds to its long-term growth potential.

Trading View: How Should Investors React?

While the block deal may cause short-term price volatility, long-term investors might view this as an opportunity. With strong financials, growing ARPU, and robust 5G expansion, Airtel remains fundamentally solid.

Keep an eye on volumes and institutional participation in the deal, as they may indicate future price movement.

In the Indian context, where telecom remains a core economic sector, such deals often reset the price trend—not reverse it entirely. Use stop-loss strategies and wait for market cues post-deal before making large bets.
