RVNL Wins ₹242 Crore Contract to Electrify 154-km Andhra Pradesh Rail Stretch

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has bagged a ₹242.49 crore contract from South Central Railway to upgrade the overhead electrification system on the Ongole–Gudur corridor in Andhra Pradesh — one of the busiest stretches on India’s east coast rail network.
The Letter of Award (LOA) was disclosed to BSE and NSE on 2 April 2026 under SEBI Regulation 30.
What the Project Involves
RVNL will design, supply, erect, test, and commission an upgraded Overhead Equipment (OHE) system — replacing the ageing 1×25kV single-voltage setup with a modern 2×25kV Auto-Transformer (AT) Feeding System across:
- 154 Route Kilometres (RKM) — Ongole (OGL) to Gudur (GDR), inclusive
- 462 Track Kilometres (TKM) — including all loops and sidings
- Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway
- Tender No: 2x25KV-OHE-OGL-GDR-15
The 2×25kV AT system effectively doubles the power delivery capacity of the line, allowing heavier freight rakes and more passenger trains to run simultaneously without voltage drop.

Why It Matters
The Ongole–Gudur section sits on the Chennai–Howrah main line — a critical corridor serving passenger trains, port freight to Krishnapatnam, and industrial traffic through Nellore district. The upgrade prepares the section for higher train speeds and denser scheduling under Indian Railways’ ongoing capacity expansion push across Andhra Pradesh.
